What makes boolee skin products clean and non-toxic?

All of our products are formulated with natural ingredients that do not cause harm to the body. We do not use any synthetic ingredients and only use ingredients that we know are clean. Also our products are paraben free, fragrance free, toxic preservative free, propylene glycol free, phthalates free, and so much more. Please refer to the questions below for further explanation.

Why Create Clean Products?

There is a scary amount of ingredients in our everyday, personal products that are toxic and carcinogenic. Furthermore, we are exposed to over 2,000 toxic ingredients a day from JUST our conventional beauty products alone. These toxic ingredients can disrupt the endocrine and reproductive systems, irritate the skin, harm the environment, and can increase the risk of certain cancers. Why is this allowed you ask? This is allowed because there is inadequate regulation by the FDA in the cosmetic industry. Companies all over the US can legally use toxic chemicals in cosmetic and personal products. They can even hide toxic ingredients under the umbrella label “fragrance”. It is very telling when there are only 11 ingredients that have been banned in the US by the FDA, while there are more than 1,300 ingredients banned in the EU. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. Even a lot of so-called “clean” companies and products are questionable. They brainwash or “greenwash” consumers into thinking their products are non-toxic, when in fact they are not! 

This is why we are so passionate about creating products that are in fact clean and non-toxic. It is so incredibly important to know what we put on our bodies because what goes on, absorbs in! 

Of course, there are other ways to be clean, but we all have to start somewhere! We are not going to be perfect by any means, but small, simple steps can make a huge difference!

What Makes Products Toxic?

Products made by other companies have ingredients in them that are simply not good to the human body. These ingredients should be avoided because they can cause harm to the body (Please refer to question number one).

We complied a list below of toxic ingredients that show up on the labels of your everyday products. We encourage our customers to do some research on their own and be mindful of what we put on our body. 

OUR PRODUCTS DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THESE INGREDIENTS:

1,4-dioxane (polyethylene glycol or PEG and propylene glycol or PG, acrylates (ethyl acrylate, ethyl methacrylate, and methacrylate), benzophenone (oxybenzone), butylated compounds (Butylated hydroxyanisole or BHA and butylated hydroxytoluene or BHT), carbon black, coal tar, ethanolamine compounds (diethanolamine or DEA and triethanolamine or TEA), formaldehydes (DMDM hydantoin, ureas), ethoxylated ingredients, fragrance, homosalate, hydroquinone, heavy metals, methylisothiazolinone (MIT), methylchloroisothiazolinone (CMIT), Mica, nitrosamines, octinoxate, parabens (methyl-, butyl-, propyl-), PABA, petrolatum, phenoxyethanol, polyacrylamide, phthalates (dibutyl and diethylhexyl), quaternium-15, styrene acrylates copolymers, talc, synthetic musks, titanium dioxide, toluene, triclosan, and triclocarban

Just to reiterate, our products do not include any of these ingredients!! That is what makes us a clean and non-toxic company. We take pride in our ingredients and make our products with our customers in mind.

What is the Shelf-Life of Your Products?

Because our products are homemade and contain natural ingredients/preservatives that are not as strong as your typical synthetic ones, our products are not meant to stay on shelves for a long period of time. You should open and use our products within 6 months of purchase. Please remember to store product in a dry, cool place out of direct/indirect sunlight. If not done, it could speed up the shelf life and spoil the product sooner.

We have also opted to use a bottle and pump instead of a jar, to eliminate possible bacteria from the outside world.

Are our products safe to use during pregnancy?

We make sure our products are formulated with natural and nontoxic ingredients. We do, however, use essential oils in our products. Consult your doctor before use.

What is the ingredient named "PhytoCide Aspen Bark Extract" in Boolee Skin products?

Phytocide Aspen Bark Extract is naturally derived from the bark of the American Aspen tree and serves as a natural preservative (GMO-free and is extracted without ethoxylation or ethylene oxide treatment). It is extremely rich in salicylates which has been found to act as an antimicrobial with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity in cosmetics/personal care as well as a analgesic for medical purposes. Aspen Bark Extract conditions the skin to promote smoothness and hydration, has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which offers a calming effect, and is extremely suitable for sensitive skin.

What is the ingredient named "Montanov L" in boolee skin products?

Montanov L is a green synthesis emulsifier that bonds water and oil together. Green synthesis simply means that it is made without harsh chemicals such as preservatives, ethylene oxide, or solvents. Green synthesis is an alternative to a toxic chemical operation and is fairly new. Montanov L has a 100% vegetable origin, is GMO-free, is biodegradable and is approved by ECOCert. Also, Montanov L has great dermo-compatibility, is extremely moisturizing, and helps the actives or lipids from our lotion penetrate the skin easier. (Researching and finding the best clean emulsifier for our products was extremely important to us. The most commonly used emulsifier that many other "clean" companies use is called Emulsifying Wax NF. While this one is generally deemed to be clean, the process to form this wax may give off 1,4-dioxane, which is a toxic carcinogen. That is why we decided to not use Emulsifying Wax NF and look for an alternative product. Montanov L was our answer.)

What are the active preservatives used boolee skin products?

We use Phytocide Aspen Bark Extract and Leucidal Liquid SF. 

Phytocide Aspen Bark Extract is naturally derived from the bark of the American Aspen tree and serves as a natural preservative (GMO-free and is extracted without ethoxylation or ethylene oxide treatment). It is extremely rich in salicylates which has been found to act as an antimicrobial with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity in cosmetics/personal care as well as a analgesic for medical purposes. Aspen Bark Extract conditions the skin to promote smoothness and hydration, has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which offers a calming effect, and is extremely suitable for sensitive skin. 

Leucidal Liquid SF provides broad spectrum antimicrobial protection while maintaining a clean ingredient profile. It is made up of naturally occurring compounds by fermenting Lactobacillus, a probiotic based ingredient. It is commonly used to produce fermented products such as kimchi or sauerkraut. Lactobacillus acidifies its environment and produces antimicrobial peptides which restrict the growth of microorganisms. This ingredient is naturally derived, REACH compliant, ECOcert approved, and on the Whole Foods Acceptable Premium Preservative List.
